The wording in the photo release form is important, but so is the information that is captured. Always make sure that all the client's information is easy to read – especially when it’s handwritten. A signed Photo Release form (also called a Model Release) essentially releases the model's ownership of the images captured to you or your company. With this permission, you can use the photos as you desire, whether it be for a creative art project or for a commercial advertising campaign. It is always a good idea to obtain a Model Release. In fact, some of your clients may require that you have photography releases to use your images in their projects especially if the photos include minors. Step 3 – Here, the releasor must select one of the available options to indicate whether or not there is to be payment for the released photo(s). If there will be payment for the released photo(s), the amount should also be provided. Many states require sections of the liability waiver to be written in conspicuous font so that it grabs the reader's attention. When entering into a sales agreement for photographs, it is a good idea to produce a printed sheet of thumbnail images covered in the agreement and to attach it thereto.
